Services

Assessments

Eureka Learning Centre provides a variety of assessment services including Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA), Language Assessments and Social Skills Assessments

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA)

Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is used to determine the function of challenging behavior in order to recommend the most effective course of treatment to reduce the frequency and intensity of certain behaviors. Functional Behavioral Assessment includes records review, interviews with parents and caregivers, and direct observation of the behavior in the naturally occurring environment. Assessment may also include a formal Functional Analysis of the challenging behavior. Data is recorded, graphed and interpreted with specific treatment recommendations that can be used to develop a formal Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)

Language Assessments

Language Assessments are conducted in order to determine which specific language and learning skills the child has and which of these skills are in need of further development. Assessments are conducted over the course of 1-6 sessions using the VB-MAPP assessment protocols. Reports include explanation and interpretation of the results in easy to understand language in addition to the formal results. Treatment recommendations are provided and can be used to develop an Individualized Treatment Plan.

Social Skills Assessments

Social Skills Assessments are useful in determining areas of strength and weakness in interactions with peers, siblings, and family members. Assessments include records review, direct observation, and parent/caregiver interviews in addition to more formal social skills, rating skills and evaluations. Reports include a description of the child’s current level of social skills functioning in addition to recommended treatment options and social skills targets for intervention.

Intervention Services

Eureka Learning Centre offers a wide range of behavior analysis services for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, developmental disabilities, ADHD, or children that just need a bit of extra help in one or two areas. Our primary area of specialization is early intervention and language acquisition. Learning opportunities are trained in a fun, play-based environment to the greatest extent possible in combination with intensive teaching trials at the table when appropriate. Our goal is that the child not only “learns to play” but also “plays to learn”.

Direct Professional Behavior Analysis Services

A Program Supervisor provides direct Professional Behavior Analysis Services directly to the client, family, and caregivers at our locations. The Behavior Analyst utilizes the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (Behaviour) in order to increase a variety of pro-social behaviours including, but not limited to, areas of language, social, academic, and functional life skills. Direct Professional Behavior Analysis Services may also be provided to clients in community and home settings on a limited basis.

Focused & Comprehensive
Centre-based Behaviour Programs

Most children and families require a more intensive Applied Behavior Analysis program. Services are provided at our purpose built clinic locations by our team of highly trained junior and senior Behaviour Therapists supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). This tiered model of support is research based and a cost effective alternative to Direct Professional Behavior Analysis Services for children that require a greater number of treatment hours on a weekly basis. Focused Behaviour Programs target 1-2 specific behaviour reduction and/or skill acquisition areas at a time while a Comprehensive Behaviour Program addresses multiple skill acquisition and behaviour reduction areas at once. A thorough assessment by one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts will determine the most appropriate approach for each child.

Parent Training Services

Caring for a child with autism can be challenging. We empower parents by teaching them the necessary tools and strategies to respond to their child’s actions and needs. Our parent training services are customized and based on parent priorities to treat socially significant behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, communication, and adaptive skills that enhance the lives of the individuals, such as dressing and toileting.

School & Daycare
Consultation .

When implemented correctly, techniques based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (Behaviour) are effective for increasing pro-social behaviors and decreasing challenging behavior in any setting, including the classroom environment. However, it is important to recognize that Applied Behavior Analysis looks different in the educational setting than in the clinical setting. All consultations are conducted by the Program Supervisor. Some of the services included with a school consultation include:

  • Functional Behavior Assessment.
  • Creation of a behavior implementation plan.
  • Observations.
  • Training for Staff.
  • Assisting in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.

Social Skills Groups

Social Skills are a critically essential and yet often neglected aspect of treatment for individuals with Autism and related developmental disabilities. Research has demonstrated that interaction with typically developing peers is an effective way to increase treatment outcomes for Social Skills Training. Subject to certain pre-requisites, children are assigned to Social Skills Groups based on age, functioning level, and interests.
